Surname Saturday - Napolitano

My Napolitano ancestors came from Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. I descend from Arcangelo Napolitano, son of Giacomo 1717-1772 who was born in Belsito, Cosenza and Rosa Scarlato, birth town still not known. According to the 1742 Catasto, Arcangelo was the first Napolitano found to be living in Montalto Uffugo.

My good friend, Cathy Napolitan has done extensive research not only on the Napolitano surname, but on all the residents of Montalto Uffugo. If you have ancestors from this town, you might want to check out her websites at Montalto Uffugo.net , and The Cosenza Exchange which host the images of the actual birth, marriage and death acts for many of the families.

Arcangelo and Rosa had 9 children. The majority of these children were discovered in the baptism records of Santa Maria La Castagna. Several were known prior to that but the names of Arcangelo and Rosa were unknown. The children and grandchildren of Arcangelo and Rosa settled in the nearby comuni of San Vincenzo La Costa, San Sisto, San Fili and perhaps more. In 1910 all the Napolitano's in San Fili were the descendants of Arcangelo and Rosa.... read more

I'm impressed. I find Italian research so difficult, but I haven't tried really hard yet as I have been concentrating on my Norwegian side (really easy).

It's really not that difficult once you have done it for a while. But when I first starting I was lost. If you need any help with yours let me know - perhaps I can help a bit.

Got excited reading your blog as my grandparents also came from Cosenza Calabria. That is as much as I know & have been going around in circles trying to find info on them.
Looked for the names Felice & Corina which I'm sure have many spellings. Tried all I could think of.
Checked your relatives names but nothing sounds familiar to me.
Sure wish you lived in the Phx area!
Thanks for your site.
